Jackie's Laboratory

“Despite all our achievements, we owe our existence to a six-inch layer of topsoil and the fact that it rains.”

This is where I will collect some thoughts, resources, and little projects about science! I am a biology student and I find all aspects of natural life fascinating. There are so many things to learn about and love and it can feel overwhelming at times. This site is an outlet for me to research and write about biology topics that interest me in a condensed way.

Superfund Sites

Brief descriptions of toxic waste sites in the United States. The EPA has a small document about each one but in my short time going through them, I noticed that many have not been updated in decades. These sites are very emotionally striking to me as it becomes obvious quickly that there are so many areas where toxic waste has been dumped carelessly or even purposefully. Some of the remidiation and cleanup has also taken and incredible number of years and I think these topics should be focused on more as they can severly effect the health of those living near and around the sites.

Copperhead Telemetry

Currently (Summer 2024) I am working as a lab assitant to a Phd student doing a habitat study on copperhead snakes in my state. Here are some of my thoughts and photos from this experience.
